Perinatal Peer Support Mentor Volunteer
We are looking for volunteers who have had direct or indirect experience of, or an interest in, the mental health challenges associated with the prenatal and postnatal period. They need to be able to empathise and actively listen and to be able to ask for support and guidance when needed. They should feel comfortable working with the mums and their young children.
Peer Support is about sharing your experience or knowledge with the hope of providing, support, encouragement, reassurance, and validation that you understand what they are going through, that they are not alone in their feelings and circumstance.
Volunteers will offer a ‘step-down’ approach to support bridging the gap between link worker support and complete discharge by providing low level support from a trained peer support mentor for up to 12 weeks post service discharge
